• Applications for a Sandhill Crane Harvest Permit will be accepted only at the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Website at www.outdooralabama.com. An Alabama Hunting License is required prior to registration. The application period for the drawing is September 1-29, 2026. The drawing will be held on September 30, 2026. Selected applicants must complete the Mandatory Training Course and purchase the Selected Sandhill Crane Harvest Permit prior to accepting their hunter status. The selected applicant’s acceptance is required by 12:00 PM October 7, 2026. If a Permit is not accepted the next applicant on the list will be notified and given 48 hours to respond. Successfully drawn hunters can bring up to 3 guests. • To register for this hunt, you must be 16 years of age or older and have a Conservation ID (CID). This hunt is for Youth and/or Active Military or Veterans only. The regular waterfowl season shooting hours, bag limits, and legal arms and ammunition apply to the special days. Individuals must follow the listed rules to participate in the scheduled youth, veteran, & active military personnel waterfowl hunts: 1. Up to two (2) youth participants must be accompanied by an adult supervisor. The adult supervisor, who may not hunt unless they are a military veteran or active military personnel, is to remain within arm’s length of the youth at all times. 2. Youth is defined as those individuals who have not reached their sixteenth birthday. 3. Adult is defined as those individuals 21 years old or older or the parent of the youth who are in possession of all state hunting licenses and state and federal waterfowl stamps required to hunt waterfowl. Possession of the required hunting licenses and stamps are required. 4. Only one firearm will be allowed per youth. Only the youth hunters will be permitted to utilize the firearm for hunting, unless the adult is a military veteran or active military personnel. The adult is expected to review with each youth the rules of firearm safety and hunter ethics and to ensure they are followed. 5. Veterans & Active Military Personnel must have in possession a valid proof of service (Military ID, VA ID, or Veteran ID; or validation on Driver's License; or Copy of DD214). Possession of the mandatory hunting licenses and stamps is required. After registration closing and random draw, if selected for a hunt you will receive an email requesting you to follow a link, log into the registration page and validate or accept your permit. Once your permit is accepted, you will receive an email in a of couple weeks with hunt unit assignment, and other hunt details and logistics. |
